The World Maritime University (WMU) WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute (GOI), with the support of the the Government of Canada through the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), has launched a Ph.D. Scholarship and Post-Doctoral Fellowship Programme on Gender Empowerment in support of the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development through research, education and capacity building.

The programme aims to promote gender equality and empowerment of women in the conduct of ocean science, as well as gender equality in the regulatory and ocean science governance systems that coordinate, manage and mediate ocean science.

Research proposals that canvass novel policy and scientific approaches on gender empowerment are welcomed, including across the following thematic areas:

1. Role of Gender Equality & Empowerment of Women in the Conduct and Delivery of Ocean Scientific Research;
2. Ocean Science Governance Systems; and
3. Ocean Science Diplomacy

Successful applicants are required to be residents at WMU in Malmö, Sweden, for the duration of the programme.
